At this point, we're all pretty familiar with Solange Knowles. But what about her husband, Alan Ferguson? Here we give you seven things you may not have known about the killer director.

7 Things You Didn't Know About Solange's Man, Alan Ferguson

In case you missed it (and if you did, it’s time to crawl out from that boulder you’ve been living under): Solange Knowles just dropped a new album, A Seat at the Table, and it’s currently holdin’ it down at the number one spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. Knowles isn’t exactly new to the music scene; she not only founded her own label, Saint Records, back in 2013, but she’s also an accomplished DJ and has even written for Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. With a considerable amount of industry experience under her belt, Knowles knows when to give credit where credit is due, and she hasn’t been shy about giving up mad props to Alan Ferguson, her husband of two years and co-director of the videos for “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.” As a kick-ass recording artist, style goddess, and all-around girl boss (let’s just take a moment to remember that elevator incident, GIRL), Knowles’ stacked resume is something we’re all pretty familiar with at this point. But Ferguson’s? Not so much. Which is why we’re giving you the lowdown on Mr. Solange Knowles.

1. He’s Been in The Biz for Over 20 Years

For anyone who’s dubious about Ferguson’s credentials, it should be noted that he’s been making tracks in the music industry longer than most of today’s Snapchat-obsessed millennials have been alive. And he’s worked with such boldfaced names as Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, Fall Out Boy, Katy Perry, Jay Z, John Legend, and Tiesto. He even directed Beyoncé’s videos for “Party” and “Dance for You,” and won best director for it at the 2012 BET Awards.

2. He Comes From Humble Beginnings

Ferguson wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, nor did he start off with a network of A-list resources at his disposable. Like Knowles, he grew up in the South—Richmond, Virginia to be more precise. His father was an Army veteran and was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. A self-made man? We’re into it.

3. He Has a Pseudonym.

Sometimes—when he’s feeling spicy?—Ferguson goes by the pseudonym Sky Dalton. Apparently (re: according to Wikipedia), some of his work is credited under this pen name. Does it sound like a character in Dunston Checks In? We think so. Does that matter? No siree.

4. He’s Old Enough to be Your Dad.

Born back in 1963, Ferguson is 23 years older than Knowles—and we’re going to assume, older than you too. If we weren’t writing on a public platform, and had no qualms about bothering Knowles, we might even call him daddy.

5. The Dude Has Killer Style

Not that this is surprising; we can’t imagine someone with as much sartorial prowess as Knowles would settle for anyone with sub par style. Luckily, Ferguson seems to have mastered the art of dressing, matching Knowles’ killer getups with his own enviable threads, and earning plenty of style points on his own.

6. He Shies Away From Social Media

While he’s certainly popped up numerous times on his wife’s Insta and Twitter feeds, Ferguson tends to keep to himself and keep a low profile by staying off social media. Pretty classy move if you ask us—and anyway, Knowles has a big enough following for the both of them.

7. Knowles Wears The Pants in The Relationship
While much hasn’t been said about their first encounter, what we do know is that Knowles didn’t sit around by the phone waiting for Ferguson to make his move. Knowles stuck it to outdated social norms and was the first to approach the director.
