7/31/17: Your Weekly Activist Events Roundup

Ouch. The state of our nation has suffered another insufferable bruise from the current 45th administration—one that targets the transgender and gender queer community. On Wednesday of last week, Trump tweeted that transgender individuals will be banned from serving in the military. The malicious tweet read:

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump said in a series of tweets. “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

In wake of said persecution, the community and its allies have displayed respectable actions of resistance that stress our solidarity, including a successful rally in Times Square. This has proven not only that threats to our liberty and equality are constant, but also that our activism in opposition to said oppressions remain just as relentless and this week’s list of activist events and effort exemplify just that. Check them out below.

Daily Action

Call your Senators at (844) 241-1141 and urge them to write legislation that will block Donald Trump’s ban on transgender Americans serving in the military! Thankfully, the administration does need a little more than just a tweet to officiate Trump’s ban. Congress bears the authority to block Trump’s efforts and can so through passing a stand-alone bill or by adding this provision to a larger piece of “must pass” legislation.
