Last week, the United States was rocked once again by the aftermath of police violence against communities of color. Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. Delrawn Small in Brooklyn, New York. The Dallas Police Department shooting in Texas. Those are just a few of the deaths that have sparked outrage and in Oakland, London, New York, Cincinnati, and dozens of other cities. In the week since July 4th, eleven people have been killed by police across the country and in 2016 alone, there have been 571 police killings. As this weekend has shown, people are not ready to go back to business as usual.

In the aftermath of the shootings, tense Black Lives Matter protests have sparked tense standoffs with police and, in several cities, dozens of arrests. One high-profile arrest happened to prominent Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson, who traveled to Baton Rouge to march with fellow activists. He was among more than 100 demonstrators arrested on Saturday in Baton Rouge for protesting.
