A Heathers TV Show is Coming and it's Nothing like the Original
Fuck me gently with a chainsaw—Heathers is back…kinda. The 80s cult classic film is returning to our TV sets with a vengeance—and this time, it’s starring a whole new generation. In early 2018, a Heathers-inspired TV show will be premiering on Paramount network, and the show has promised to stay true to the pitch-dark comedy that made the original film so enticing, with a new cast of characters that are sure to be just as murderous, but way more modern.
The Heathers clique will be played by newcomer Melanie Field as leader and first-to-die Heather Chandler, this time with no red scrunchie in sight; Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke, the bulimic radio show-listener who was originally played by Shannen Doherty; and Jasmine Matthew as Heather McNamara, the green scrunchie who tries to usurp Heather Chandler after her death. Grace Victoria Fox from Under the Dome will play Veronica, the sarcastic femme fatale of the original film, and James Scully will play JD, the role that made everyone with a pulse fall in love with Christian Slater. Though it’s unclear whether the show will follow the same plotline as the 80s movie, we do have a glimpse at the show’s casting and overall direction in this first teaser:
Though this TV series is sure to be a far-cry from the film that originally put Winona Ryder on the map, it will hopefully be just as hilarious and dark. Lick it up, baby.
