A Hot Minute With Groundbreaking Model Shaun Ross
Shaun Ross: part-time Beyoncé muse, full-time model, and evidently very forthright. He was one of the many “notables“ peppered throughout the audience at the MADE Fashion Week Pyer Moss Fall/Winter ’16 show today. And it’s a good thing he did! I snagged him for a quick, piping hot minute…
Hiya Shaun! What did you think of the collection?
The collection was good. I definitely was thinking that I was going to see some leathers and things like that. But I saw something that honestly I did not expect, and I love the touch of Erykah in it. She, as a person, has become such an icon that you can take something and you can say, “You’re being Erykah.” And I think that was really cool. Kerby is just a really, really good designer in general, so it was really, really cool to see what he had. One of my favorite looks was the all-white on the dark skin boy with the grey hair. I really, really loved it.
I loved that too. Is this your first show that you’ve been to for fashion week?
This isn’t my first show, this is my last show. No this isn’t my last show, this is my last runway though.
What was that bag you were holding before?
The bag that I was holding was Bethann Hardison’s bag. It said, “Black Models Matter” [on the front]. And if you know her, she started everyone—Naomi Campbell, Tyson Beckford…
What did you think of the music?
The music was really, really good. At first, I thought they were saying the word “pussy.” But then I was like, “Oh, they’re rapping Future!”
Are you looking forward to anything else this coming week?
No. Not at all. I’m gonna go.
