About Face: Gabriel Rios
In this edition of About Face, we’re featuring California-based beauty Gabriel Rios, aka King Gabe. His dramatic and graphic looks stand out from the crowd, and we love seeing his whimsical transformations, featuring everything from flowers to full-face pigments. Learn how three of his looks were created, and get inspired in the process.
Look 1I love glamour; things that shine, things that sparkle, all of which inspired me to create a golden Greek god type look. This was part of the “31 days of Halloween Looks” I did last year for Instagram (which by the way, it’s not easy coming up with 31 all new looks everyday especially after doing the same thing the year before that haha.) For this look I created a glossy lid and lip look using a Maybelline clear lip gloss. I used a gold Nyx glitter for my liner over my regular liner, gold glitter, and gold highlight. I thought to myself, how can I make this look even more extra than it is? So I snatched up some gold leaves I purchased at the crafts store to intensify and complete the look.
Look 2The 60’s and 70’s are a huge influence for me. My music taste, Aesthetic for my videos, and a few of my looks. I was going for a floral, mod glamour, twiggy, hippie approach with this look (of course I had to add my twist to everything.) I used my Take Me Back to Brazil palette, some chopped up lashes, and a white and black liner to create the eyes. I love the sun kissed look so I used a matte bronzer for my nose and added faux freckles. I’m a very artsy person so I had to add some graphic brows and top it off with my (new obsession) Milk Makeup peace tattoo stamp.
Look 3Growing up I’ve always been so fascinated by movies that made me feel enchanted. The main film being Disney’s “Fantasia” (which continues to inspire me). I love to make people feel nostalgic with my content, almost like they’re dreaming. For this look, I mixed a blue pigment with a white foundation for my base. Then I used my trusty Elmer’s glue stick to cover my brows and create new ones. My Morphe 35B palette for eyeshadow, contour, blush, and lips, and Nyx white liner for my eyes and tear drop. I used an iridescent Nyx eyeshadow for my highlight, sprinkled iridescent glitter all over me, and topped the look off with flowers.
