About Face: Rikki Mendolera
Get out your primer and primp those pores: it’s time for another edition of About Face, and this week’s beauty expert is about to blow your expectations out of the water. Meet Rikki Mendolera, AKA MINT: the self-proclaimed Shanghai drag queen who crash landed in New York (needless to say—lucky us).
MINT is everything you love about drag culture, and then some: colorful, sparkly, and the exact personification of everyone’s maximalist makeup mantra, these over-the-top, out-of-this-world beauty looks are exactly what we need to turn a drab Monday into one that’s fab. So grab your wine glass and your notepad: it’s time for a lesson in beauty you won’t soon forget.
Look 1For foundation and cream contour I used Kryolan TV Paint Sticks. Eyes were done with Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette and Sugarpill shades “Kim Chi” and “Buttercup”. The lips are “Mannequin” by Jeffree Star Cosmetics with a darker nude Colourpop liner. This is really one of Mint’s stable looks with a pop of color.
Look 2My foundation base and contour is also Kryolan TV Paint Sticks. Eyes were done with black liner, black and white eye shadows, and silver holographic glitter. The lips are my favorite black lipstick, which is “Weirdo” by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I was actually inspired by Katy Perry’s makeup on her recent performance on SNL. I love the 60’s graphic eye she had with the glitter. I dragged it up a bit and made it more “Minty” with the eye shape and black lip.
Look 3Foundation is Kryolan TV Paint Stick again. It’s my go to for heavy coverage that doesn’t mess with my skin too much after hours of wear. I’m wearing Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette and Sugarpill shade “Dollipop”. Along my crease I also used Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter liner in “Distortion”. I’m wearing Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Loversick” with Limecrime Diamond Crushers in “Fluke” on top of it. This look I went a bit darker in the eye with more liner and black shadow than usual, which I ended up loving.
