About Last Night: Anja Rubik's Moody 25 Mag Launch
The launch for Anja Rubik’s fourth issue of 25 Magazine was absurdly gorgeous, but perhaps the loveliest element was the lighting. There wasn’t a single bulb in the place, a giant, sparsely furnished loft in TriBeCa. Instead, the room was solely lit by candles, long tapers in antique candelabras. They were placed all throughout the massive space, but were most strikingly arranged at long dining tables, where they were arranged amongst fruit and flowers, lending the effect of a 17th-century Dutch still life. It was truly lovely.
As we walked in, a musical performance was beginning, with Mary Komasa on piano and vocals and Adam Crystal on violin. Models were elegantly smoking at the tables – the cheekbones in this place could cut like a knife – and other guests mingled at the bar, where they were served champagne and cocktails by tuxedo-clad bartenders. Besides the dining tables, the only furniture in the room was two velvet couches, arranged amongst vintage books atop an antique rug. Potted palm trees were scattered throughout the space – thankfully, we didn’t spot anyone burning anything with candles or cigarettes. The guests included photographers Inez and Vinoodh, designer Waris Ahluwalia, model and actress Hari Nef, Chromeo, nightlife baron André Saraiva, legendary dancer Lil’ Buck, leather designer Zana Bayne, Milk’s own, Mazdack Rassi, and models like Freja Breja Erichsen and Constance Jablonski. Sensual and elegant, the party was a testament to Anja and her new issue of 25.
