About Last Night: Kali Uchis & Jorja Smith Took The Stage In LA
Is there a hotter duo than Kali Uchis & Jorja Smith? Negative. Ask anyone who was lucky enough to attend last night’s show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. MILK was on the frontlines to experience the collaborative co-headlining tour of these two rising, empowering, young women making their marks in the music industry. To start us off, LA based DJ Mia Carucci set the vibe hyping up the crowd with upbeat bangers and tossing teddy bears to the crowd.
Once the venue was warmed up, we were graced with the presence of the British singing heart throb, Jorja Smith, who took the stage in an Anarchy pink velour fit and with her mesmerizing falsetto bringing the house down with hits from her first full length LP, Lost & Found. She closed her independent set with an unforgettable performance of On My Mind. The house lights dimmed for the Colombian-American powerhouse, Kali Uchis, who sauntered down the circular staircase bringing the heat with her trippy lyrics, evident confidence, and jams from her debut album, Isolation. Jorja joined Kali on stage teaming up to take on classic hits from TLC and Destiny’s Child.
The audience was hit with surprise guests, Steve Lacey and Tyler the Creator throughout the set. The queens closed it down with the popular song on Uchis’ album featuring Jorja, Tyrant which shut down the house.
Make sure to check out the two Grammy nominated artists on their North American Spring Tour before they wrap up in Toronto on May 30 at RBC Echo Beach.
