About Last Night: Lady Gaga Stuns At amFAR Gala At Milk LA
Last night’s amfAR Inspiration Gala at Milk LA was a glittering, star-studded affair, featuring a jazzy performance by Lady Gaga. The event, which was jokingly referred to as “Ryan Murphy’s bar mitzvah,” featured some of the biggest stars of the Murphy-verse, and some of the biggest stars in the regular universe. Besides Mother Monster, Chloë Sevigny, Emma Roberts, Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, Lea Michele, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Jamie Lee Curtis were all in attendance to help raise money for AIDS research.
Gaga was the centerpiece of the event, gorgeously performing a number of jazz standards, including ‘Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,’ and ‘La Vie en Rose.’ Bomer told Variety that Gaga is Murphy’s “creative soulmmate,” and she told the crowd that Murphy “appreciates the part of me my Christian guilt is mortified by.” The pair also teamed up for the fundraising auction, offering a walk-on role on American Horror Story: Hotel.

When presented with the Inspiration Award, after a joke (“I’m honored to be amfAR’s big gay of the year”), Murphy spoke seriously about fearing AIDS in his youth. The man writes obsessively, because as he said, “When it’s ingrained in you that you may not have a tomorrow, you wring every drop out of today.” Hopefully, future artists won’t have as much to fear. The gala raised 3 million for AIDS research, and amFAR hopes to eradicate the disease by 2020.
