Ariana Grande Announces Manchester Benefit Concert
It has been five days since the tragic suicide bombing that took the lives of 22 innocent individuals and injured over 60 at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. Despair lingers throughout our social atmosphere, while slight instances of hope combat its density. The latest compassionate effort was recently announced by Grande herself, declaring a benefit concert to be held in the same affected city. While the singer acknowledged in a tweet, “There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better,” she extends her “hand and heart” to those who are suffering. Her announcement reads:
“I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honour and raise money for the victims and their families… Our response to this violence must be to come closer together, to help each other, to love more, to sing louder and to live more kindly and generously than we did before.”
Other charitable actions set forth in the name of sympathy include an online fundraising campaign, which has already amassed over $2,100,000 after the singer shared a link, and is aimed to reach over $2.5 million. The British Red Cross will administer the generous funds in making sure that it is all distributed to the afflicted families. In another statement, Grande commends the blanket of compassion that has been spread across the world in response to the attack, writing:
“The compassion, kindness, love, strength and oneness that you’ve shown one another this past week is the exact opposite of the heinous intentions it must take to pull off something as evil as what happened Monday.”
While the singer has suspended her Dangerous Women Tour, with no updates on when it’s to be continued, she has made it abundantly clear that her priorities lie within honoring the victims from Monday’s act of terror. Grande solemnly stated that “the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans, and all affected by this tragedy… will be on my mind and in my heart everyday and I will think of them with everything I do for the rest of my life.”
