Beth Ditto Hearts Jean Paul Gaultier, A New Plus Size Collab
Indie-rocker Beth Ditto has announced a plus-size clothing collaboration with the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier, titled Beth Ditto ♥ Jean Paul Gaultier. Ditto hearts Gaultier, and we hear this line. We promise, that it’s not just newsworthy because it’s plus-size. It’s cool, period. The lovely pictures were shot by Milk pal Christine Hahn, and there’s even a t-shirt that works like a real corset. And that’s only the teaser.
The aptly named Beth Ditto ♥ Jean Paul Gaultier line marks a significant milestone for the brand: it will be the first time a Gaultier design will be available up to size 30 (cue gasps). But really, we appreciate the duo’s efforts in making sure chic isn’t just a word reserved for the thin. Ditto insists that, “[Gaultier] truly loves women of all sizes and ages and knows how to make everyone feel gorgeous.”
The bad news? You’ll have to wait until February to see it. But there’s no need to hide your tears in your 2010 Gaultier for Target hoodie—while your waiting, you can check out that corset t-shirt, which is available for purchase today. Bold, graphic, and in-your-face in the best possible way, this is a design that might actually be worth the $165 price tag. The front of the tee is embossed with a graphic of Gaultier’s iconic cone-bra look, so you can basically guarantee that you’ll be mistaken for Madonna every time you wear it. The back features real corset laces that allow you to adjust the shirt as you would an actual corset. It’s Project Runway meets American Inventor, and we’re all over it. Gaultier takes the words from our lips when he says, “This is a new concept: a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly.”
As Ditto asserts, “This line is by us, for us, period. It’s my lifelong dream to get to design real clothes for big people, clothes that are comfortable and cool!” And if you weren’t already sold, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Girls Rock Camp Foundation.
So then, are you excited for Beth Ditto ♥ Jean Paul Gaultier? Ditto.
