CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists Are Announced
The time has officially come for the fashion industry’s Superbowl; where designers are the competition, judges are the scoreboard and a runway show is the main event. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is an annual tournament of design which aims to highlight, foster and challenge the talents of 10 emerging U.S. designers. Though hailing from different origins and disciplines of design—including womenswear, menswear, sportswear and accessories—they all share a common thread, and that is a thirst which begs to be quenched by the event’s generous prize: $400,000, major exposure, and advising from CFDA members and Vogue editors.
While this season of the contest welcomes four new judges, including Eva Chen, head of fashion partnerships at Instagram; Nicole Phelps, Director of Vogue Runway; Roopal Patel, senior vice president and fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue; and designer, Joseph Altuzarra, it also suffers the loss of Anna Wintour as an official judge. Sigh. With that said, Vogue announced that she’d still be heavily involved, but due to her packed quotidian schedule (running the American fashion industry), she’s unable to invest as much time as she had in the past—paying studio visits, judging challenges, and just overseeing the general competition as virtuous Goddess of Style.Having only announced the ten finalists yesterday, after filtering them from a massive pool of applicants, the contest now commences with collection reviews by the judges, Instagram challenges, shows during New York Fashion Week in September, and a closing CVFF fashion show in October held in Los Angeles. The winner, per tradition, is then announced at a New York City gala on November 6, alongside two runners-up who are awarded $150,000 each. The finalists whose fates will be destined are as follow: Ahlem, Chromat, Dyne, Jordan Askill, Matea, RtA, Sandy Liang, Telfar, Vaquera and Victor Glemaud.
