Ditch the FOMO & Attend These 8 Art Basel 2019 Events

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not because of the holidays (sorry, not sorry), but because of the arrival of the Miami edition of Art Basel. Since launching in 2002, Art Basel has become North America’s most prominent art affair, featuring an array of contemporary paintings, films, and videos, sculptures, drawings, photography, digital art, plus installations from thousands of global artists.

Even if you’re not exactly the textbook art aficionado, there’s plenty to do in MIA during Art Basel by way of live music and parties at some of the city’s hottest venues. Not sure where to start? Not to worry, MILK has you covered with this list of eight, vibrant shindigs you must attend.

What: The Cloud at Art Basel Miami 2019

When: December 4th – December 8th

Where are all our burners at?! While Black Rock City might be thousands of miles away, Miami is the perfect locale for this immersive, Burning Man-bred art installation. Thus, here’s your opportunity to dance under an enormous, fluffy cloud off the Playa and at the Magic City Innovation District during Art Basel. The Cloud throbs to the music beat thanks to 60,000 watts of ultra-HD sound and 33,000 LEDs.

The Cloud’s main event, DARKER, taking place Friday, December 6th,  allows you to experience the Hennessey Sound Design 360-degree flying speaker. Music will include two special guests (still hush-hush for now), plus Lunar Plane and Moritz Hofbauer. Come early for the sunset, stay for the live performance and activation by internationally acclaimed cellist Hadas Kleinman.

What: Do Not Sit On Art Basel 2019

When: December 3rd – December 9th

We’ve been a fan of Do Not Sit On The Furniture (DNS) since last year’s amazing Art Basel soirees. This year will be no exception. Featuring many of the intimate venue’s favored acts and key family, Do Not Sit On Art Basel 2019 aims to serve as an oasis from the bustling Art Week.

Fronted by revered underground icon Behrouz, expect nights filled with special musical acts, Burning Man inspired décor, mouth-watering craft cocktails, and great ambiance. On Thursday, December 5th, DNS will partner with Diskolab for Do Not Sit by the Pool hosted at Hyde Beach at SLS. This open-air event will feature performances by Osunlade and Behrouz, with family members Alan Epps and Eli Light maintaining the vibe. Transitioning into night, DNS faves, Sabo & Goldcap, will bring the heat behind the decks.

What: Space Basel

When: December 4th – December 8th

Space Basel is always a good time because the week’s roster of performers is stacked and the energy high. However, there’s one particular instalment we’re especially craving: Paradise Miami.

Within the past year, Paradise traversed the globe to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and other international cities. Therefore, you KNOW the Miami edition will be fire. Making its debut appearance during the annual art fair, Paradise will host a full takeover of Club Space from 11:00PM on Saturday evening through Sunday, December 8th. The hot lineup consists of Jamie Jones, Luciano, Four Tet, Idris Elba, Lauren Lane, and a mix of other “it” house and techno artists.

What: Heart Festival

When: December 6th – December 7th

Wynwood Factory will become the mecca for electronic music fans descending upon Miami for Art Basel thanks to Heart Festival. The two-day event is the result of the creators behind the award-winning Heart Nightclub. Since closing its doors last spring, the club owners launched Heart Festival.

Collaborating with Humans Alike, the festival curates three different rooms and one open-air lot for a re-embodiment of their multi-dimensional atmosphere. The fest will host performances by The Martinez Brothers, Erick Morillo, Andrea Oliva, and Ilario Alicante, plus many other house and techno acts.

What: elrow’art

When: December 6th

Focusing on unconventional experiences that go beyond the music, elrow events are part festival, parade, and carnival all wrapped up into one grand party! They’ve brought their immersive residency to cities such as Dubai, Las Vegas, NYC, London, and many other locales. However, this year at Art Basel, the party brand is debuting elrow’art. Curated by electronic music maven Paco Osuna, this brand-new series is an adventure into the world of art.

This first-ever event of its kind is dubbed as Kaos Garden and features extensive design and styling by renowned artist Okuda San Miguel (even down to elrow’s signature graffiti). Presenting a geometric vision of his interpretation of his fave painting, “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, Kaos Garden will come to life. If that’s not enticing enough, you’ll dance the night away to the sounds of Osuna, BLOND:ISH, De La Swing, and more in a custom-made tent structure at the Island Gardens waterfront overlooking the entrancing Miami skyline. Whoa.

What: STORY presents: Deadmau5 Basel Edition

When: December 6th

Whether you’re just here for his rants or sincerely love vibing out to “Strobe”, internationally renowned DJ/producer deadmau5 always gives his A-game. Performing at the lavish 1,000-cap STORY venue, Mr. Mau5 will take your favorite tunes of his off your Spotify and into a live experience unparallel to anything you’ll have the pleasure of dancing to for the balance of the year. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, check out his techno alias, TESTPILOT, alongside the iconic Richie Hawtin at Club Space on December 5th

When: December 5th

At the peak of Art Basel, acclaimed electronic music artists of the likes of Grimes, Nina Kraviz, and SOPHIE will present an inimitable rave in the name of anti-aging to the world entitled BIO-HAQUE.

According to Grimes’ Instagram post, BIO HAQUE is “a place where the well-proven anti-aging properties of raving have been distilled into the most potent experience available on the market today. The leading engineers on the team (Grimes, Nina Kraviz, SOPHIE) have dedicated their lives to identifying the most rejuvenating qualities of music.  And for one night only with the assistance of the III Points laboratory, they will present their groundbreaking findings to the public.”

Yes, the post is ambiguous, and we’re left with so many questions. However, we are surely ready to experience this power packed trio live and hopefully get some kind of innovative skin serum too.

What: Arkade Art Basel

When: December 5th

Who wouldn’t want to engage in arcade games while dancing to the sweet sounds of bass-riddled electronic dance music? Local underground house and techno promoters Un_Mute will take over the massive arcade and bar, FunDimension, in heart of Wynwood, for their annual Art Basel showcase. DJ-producers tINI, Francesco Del Garda, and Unai Trotti will liven the atmosphere while you test out your Galaga skills, make your way up the rock wall, drive bumper cars, and more…in between busting out those sick dance moves!
