Ellis Clare on Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Dope Vintage
You might’ve seen our rooftop photoshoot with the one and only Ellis Clare that we published yesterday. And now, without further ado, here is our Q&A with the short-haired cutie. We picked her brain about love, art, and life as a wünderkind—and you can read it all below.
Tell us who you are in your own words.
My name’s Ellis Clare, I’m 19, I’m a buyer, I’m a photographer, I’m a teenager still, so yeah! [Laughs]
Who are you a buyer for?
I’m a vintage buyer for a brand called J Galt; I basically just shop in wholesale vintage stores so it’s kind of a dream. I do it full time, so that’s my job right now, and I’m also going to school full time for business.
What’s your favorite medium to work in?
I’m way more geared toward [photography]; I’ve been brought up with that my whole life so it’s been easy for me and I really love film.
Who’s your muse?
I guess I have to say my boyfriend [Nick Hadad] because all we do is take photos of each other [laughs]. We’ve been together for a year; he’s like my best friend.
How’d you guys meet?
We met on Instagram, actually! He slid into my DMs.
What are some of your favorite places in New York?
Pepe Rosso, which is an amazing Italian restaurant.
What do you like to do when you’re not working or creating stuff?
I’ve been really into music lately, so I play guitar sometimes, and I’m a movie buff. I watch, like, a movie a day. So that or guitar.
What’s the last movie you watched?
What’s a movie that you could watch a million times and never get sick of?
The Princess Bride. That’s an old favorite.
Where are some of your favorite places to go shopping when you’re not doing it for work?
What’s your most memorable purchase?
A pair of leather pants I got at a thrift store for $20; I’d been trying to find leather pants for so long and they’re the most perfect leather pants ever. They’re my favorite.
If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
The South of France, for sure.
We know you’re here all the time; what’s been your favorite Milk memory thus far?
I really liked that last Milk Makeup party! A ton of my friends were there. I love being here because it’s like family.
