Ferrari Concept Masters Nostalgic Androgyny For S/S '17
Ferrari Concept might seem like an odd name for an ambisexual clothing brand, but their use of bold yellows and reds, as well as their penchant for futuristic flourishes do bear some striking similarities to that most elegant and ubiquitous symbol of male overcompensation.
However, the garments made by the Berlin-by-way-of-L.A. label are intended for an entirely different demographic. Their conversation-starting statement pieces are minimalistic in pattern but loud in design, with long coats and shirts featuring sharp sleeves, translucent elements, and more leather than your favorite post-apocalyptic film. Atomic2, their S/S ’17 collection, is edgy and ambitious, but manages to avoid overwhelming the eye.
There’s definitely a feminine energy to many of the pieces, like a top with a severe, rectangular cutout, or a see-through skirt that looks to be made out of plastic, but much of the collection does achieve true fluidity, including their dad-core-inspired denim and the various t-shirts and tanks featuring the winking slogan, “Twice the strength and half the price!” which is just one of the retro-futuristic touches that make Ferrari Concept both progressive and simultaneously a little nostalgic.
The collection won’t be sold online but will be available through the brand’s stockists, which is good news since Ferrari Concept is offering a slice of forward-thinking fashion we’d very much like to be part of.
