Get A Taste of Kanye Himself with this Yeezy-Inspired Dessert Menu
Last year, First We Feast teamed up with NYC ice cream purveyor Morgenstern’s for the first-ever Kanye West Ice Cream Week. This year, they’re back with a Life of Pablo-inspired menu modeled after Ye’s greatest hits and influenced by both his music and his love/hate relationship with the paparazzi. We went to Morgenstern’s to try out a few of the selections from Kanye Ice Cream Week Szn 2, and to see if they live up to Yeezus himself.
Young Metro Milkshake
This boozy shake was the undeniable star of the show. Its only ingredients: ice cream, butterscotch, and a big portion of Henny. Think of it as an analogue to the Metro Boomin-produced hits on The Life of Pablo, (which, incidentally, are the hardest beats on the album): Father Stretch My Hands (1 and 2), Highlights, and Facts. Trust us (and Nick Morgenstern), this shake is A+.
“I Am a God” Ice Cream Croissantwich
Lest we forget, before there was The Life of Pablo there was Yeezus. And one of the most important takeaways from that album? Kanye doesn’t like waiting for baked goods, especially croissants (“In a French-ass restaurant / Hurry up with my damn croissants,” he raps on “I Am A God.”). And neither should you. Nor will you have to when you pop into Morgenstern’s for the “I Am A God” Croissantwich. It’s a simple, much chicer twist on an ice cream sandwich, with a few scoops of vanilla sitting patiently inside a croissant. Add a TLOP-ping or two—maybe Pablo Pretzels or Pink Polo Pralines—and you’re good to go.
Panda (panda, panda) Cone
“Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2” was the first time I’d heard (or heard of) BK-based rapper, Desiigner. It’s the kind of song you hear everywhere, and never get sick of. Similarly, the Panda Cone—coconut ice cream topped with black coconut-ash cookies and two black M&Ms—is the kind of cone you want to eat all summer long. The coconut flavor keeps it light and refreshing, and the cone itself is absolutely Insta-worthy.
“Watch The Cone” (two scoops) of Father Stracciatella My Hands Pt. 1 and Positive Vibes Pistachio
In addition to the specialty concoctions, we also tried two of the four flavors on the ice cream menu: Father Stracciatella My Hands Pt. 1 and Positive Vibes Pistachio. And if you follow Kanye on Twitter, then you know he’s all about positivity. We opted to have the cone without TLOPpings so the flavors could shine through, but feel free to add some Cool Pants Caramel to the chocolatey-stracciatella flavor or some Highlights Sprinkles to complement the pistachio-strawberry.
It's #KanyeIceCreamWeek szn2 and it doesn't not disappoint. Positive vibes Pistachio + Father stracciatella my hands pt. 1 Don't forget to add some Yeezy boost granola because that stuff with the pistachio definitely gave 🐠+🙋🏻 them positive vibes 🙌. . . . . #nyceats #nycfat #nycfood #nycfoodie #nycfoodporn #newyorkeats #nycdining #newforkcity #eatupnewyork #instafood #forkyeah #eatingfortheinsta #eeeeeats #instayum #f52grams #foodpornshare #foodie #noleftovers #topnycrestaurants #topcitybites #nycrestaurants #foodnyc #cheatdayeats #nycfoodgals #nyc🍴#myfab5 #yelpeatsnyc #hungrygrls #floundereats
