HBD Devon Aoki! A Look Back on 34 Years of Slayage
Devon Aoki is a force like no other. At just 34 years old today, she’s already lived more lives than mere mortals can even imagine, killing the fashion game, film game, and even the MILF game, walking away unscathed and age-less. To celebrate Aoki’s birthday today, we look back on five reasons we always have and always will love her:
She Was Mentored by Kate Moss
Aoki was born #blessed, not only by winning the genetic lottery, but also by being born into a successful household that provided ridiculous opportunities (her dad is Hioaki Aoki, the famous wrestler and restaurateur). Case in point: at 13 years old, her godmother introduced her to none other than Kate Moss, who promptly took her under her chain-smoking fashion wing. It’s no surprise, though, given her natural talent, that she was signed only one year later to Storm Model Management, at age 14. At just 5’5”, her career is way taller than she is.
She’s The Ultimate Girl From The Video
With cameo appearances in music videos by everyone from Duran Duran to Elton John, Primal Scream to Ludacris, Aoki is everywhere, and her influence spans across genres. Let’s put it this way: if you think you saw her in a video, you probably did. Not that we’re complaining.
She’s a Big Screen Vixen
It’s an understatement to call her music video CV competitive, but of course Aoki doesn’t stop there, having spent at least as much time on the silver screen. You may recognize her as Suki from 2 Fast 2 Furious, or possibly Miho à la Sin City. Most recently, she appeared in a documentary about her friend and fashion designer, Jeremy Scott, which brings us to our next point…
She has the coolest people on speed dial
Being a model and actress has its perks. Not only can you see her rubbing shoulders with the titular Mr. Scott in his documentary, Jeremy Scott: The People’s Designer, Aoki is also the sister of popular DJ and music producer, Steve Aoki. The heiress to the Benihana fortune, it’s no surprise that she has some famous friends: #privilege.
She has not slowed down her slaying
We’re not saying women should feel pressured to bounce back into hotness or whatever after having babies, but you have to admit there is some accident-on-the-side-of-the-road fascination (or is it road rage?) with women who can look as hot, or even hotter, after having a baby. The strenuous effects of pregnancy and childbirth seem to have totally skipped Aoki (who has had two babies with husband James Bailey), as evidenced by her milk-mustached, hyper-sexualized cameo in Fergie’s now infamous video for “M.I.L.F. $.” Devon is the physical embodiment of “can’t stop, won’t stop” and honestly, we don’t want her to.
