H&M Pulls A Cool Move, Collaborating With Kenzo
After tremendous, insane success with Balmain, H&M is moving on to collaborate with Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, the creative directors of Kenzo. Pieces from H&M collaborations are notoriously known to be highly coveted, and the lines are almost instantly sold out. In the past, H&M worked with a wide variety of labels, from Versace in 2011 and Comme des Garcons in 2008 to Alexander Wang and Isabel Marant in 2013, providing luxury fashion at a more affordable price point.
Most recently, H&M collaborated with Balmain to a produce an elaborate line featuring heavily embellished dresses, leather pants, over-the-knee heeled boots, and lots of gold. There was even a totally over the top runway show–the Backstreet Boys even performed a surprise reunion.
However, don’t expect the Kenzo collaboration to be anything like Balmain’s. “Balmain was glamorous and sexy, and this is vibrant, young, and fun,” said Ann-Sofie Johnsson, H&M’s head of design, in an exclusive interview with Vogue. “We really like to pick different designers, to show our customers different aesthetics.”
Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, who also co-founded the multi-brand, multinational, always-hip boutique Opening Ceremony in 2002, are excited about the upcoming joint venture. “Collaborations provoke conversation,” said Leon. With months to go until the runway show in mid-October and the official release on November 3rd, Kenzo has only released a snippet video through their Twitter and Instagram accounts, displaying lots of bright colors and patterns.

No doubt, the Kenzo fans are excited, tweeting up a storm and tagging each other with “😱😱😱” on Instagram.

Balmain x H&M caused quite a craze, as shown by this Instagram video, of shoppers intensely running into an H&M upon opening to grab any, and every, piece of the collection they can get their hands on.
Will the Kenzo collaboration stir up a similar amount of madness? Impending chaos or not, we’re patiently waiting to catch a glimpse of refreshingly colorful Kenzo x H&M’s first few looks on June 9th at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.
@LaTonyaRoberts Hi, we are looking forward to revealing the first looks from the Kenzo x H&M collection at this year’s CFDA.
