The musician talked to us about her new video and how to embrace the sweaty look.

How To Stay (And Look) Cool With Tinashe [NYFW]

Whenever I scroll through Instagram and see the handle @tinashenow, I have an immediate Pavlovian response—I need to listen to Tinashe, now. The songstress, who’s currently dropping singles leading up to the release of her new album, Joyride, makes such catchy, smooth tracks, while maintaining great control over her music’s production—a rare feat for a rising 23-year-old pop star. She also has some killer style; her VMAs look, styled by downtown gal Kyle Luu, was a breath of fresh air in a sea of thottiness. So when we saw her at the Adam Selman show at MADE New York, we naturally had to grab her for a quick chat.

You’ve had a lot of singles coming out. Has it been crazy?

It’s been amazing! It’s obviously been hectic, you know, touring and all that stuff, but it’s been really exciting because “Superlove” is my current single, which is out right now. I just shot the music video for that, so I’ve just been promoting it and I’m really excited. Everything’s been really good.

How’s your Fashion Week going so far?

It’s going good! I mean this is my first real day [of] Fashion Week. Yesterday I was just kinda warming up, so I’m excited to have a good day and a good week.

What do you like about Adam Selman’s work?

I love Adam Selman because he walks that very fine line between sophisticated and also really edgy. So, love it.

You’re known for your style. It’s like a million degrees outside, so how do you think people should go about looking cool, while also…not dying?

I think the way you can look cool and not be hot is to just relax and just try not to stress it. Everyone’s hot, everyone is feeling it. All you have to do is just try to own whatever you’re working, you know? It’s Fashion Week, it’s fun.

Or just stay in the air conditioning.
