IMG Continues to Bring Us The Goodies with New Ciara Contract
Ciara, possible real-life Cinderella, has just signed an exclusive contract with IMG Models. But then, are we really that surprised? The musician was signed to Wilhelmina Models in 2009, and has since appeared on the covers of Vogue, Essence, and L’Uomo, and inside the pages of many more publications. She’s also a long time friend of Givenchy artistic director Riccardo Tisci—who even named her as his muse at his Spring 2010 couture show—and starred in Roberto Cavalli‘s fall 2015 campaign. And then there was that recent Met Gala moment—a Swarovski, glistening reminder that she’s still here, and still stunning (in case you forgot).
So really, it was only a matter of time.
And what better company to sign with than IMG? That is, the same modeling agency known for being revolutionary, barrier breaking, and just generally kick ass? In case you’ve been actively avoiding, well, basically any form of media whatsoever for the past year and a half (which, if that’s the case, please, allow us to welcome you back to the world of the living. So much has changed since you’ve been gone.), IMG’s models are all about breaking that stereotypical model mold. From the Beyonce-endorsed Jillian Mercado—who also happens to suffer from spastic muscular dystrophy—and real life bionic woman and singer-songwriter Viktoria Modesta, to trans actress Hari Nef, 83-year-old fashion phenom China Machado, and the plus-sized male model division they recently created, IMG knows that beauty is not exclusively reserved for the thin, young, and lanky. And they’re making it their job to let everyone else know that too.
So how do we celebrate this moving moment in fashion history, this uniting of one great woman and a group of many? Do we rock it and don’t stop it? Hide our goodies? Throw a body party? Either way, we’re just glad we got this news on a Friday.
Stay tuned to Milk for more models to look up to.
