Indulge your Deviant side with Rochas' Tousled Elegance
After showing his Fall/Winter ’16 collection at Paris Fashion Week, Alessandro Dell’Aqua offered a glimpse into his vision for Rochas, apparently saying backstage that “velvet is in…maybe.” A dubious trend forecast that must’ve left fashion vloggers writhing in uncertainty. Yet perhaps that was the point; it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that that feeling of uncertainty trickled down into the collection. The “airy and fresh” looks, as the show notes reportedly called them, appeared on second glance to possess a deviant, uncombed, I-wear-contrasting-socks-with-sandals-in-the-middle-of-January side. The effect was very politician’s daughter—obedient and innocent in front of her parents, but secretly battling an addiction to NyQuil and World of Warcraft.
The remaining looks were awash in delectable, fall colors—not the lively reds and yellows you’d find in September, but more like the dirty greens, mustard yellows, and wilted oranges you’d find mid-December. These slightly soiled shades came in rich furs and velvets as well as beaded and embroidered diaphanous numbers. These were tenuously pretty girls—the type you would want to neither fuck with nor find aimlessly wandering in a dark hallway.
