Kelly Cutrone is a fearless fashion badass, a descriptor that feels odd to type but is also extremely accurate.

Kelly Cutrone is a legend both in the fashion industry and in the pop culture sphere, widely known for putting in time on The Hills and The City. On tv, she was endlessly quotable (“if you have to cry, go outside”) and cultivated the reputation that she was not to be fucked with. Cutrone had her own reality show on Bravo called Kell on Earth, which we maintain is the most underrated fashion show of all time, and in fact the only one that ever showed the actual grueling, unglamorous work that goes into Fashion Week. Kelly is one of the few fashion reality stars with actual chops; she’s a badass publicist and producer, and her firm People’s Revolution is one of the best in the business. When we saw her backstage at Jeremy Scott SS17, we had to pull her aside for a hot minute.

Are you excited for the show?

I’ve been doing this show for over 14 years, so yeah, I’m still excited, we worked really hard to get to this point, so it’s good. Sometimes hard work pays off—not always!

Do you find that it’s more exciting with each season?

No, it’s just really nice to have a ritual; so many people come and go on both sides of the fence, it’s really nice when your team can stay together. So y’know, we always have [nail artist] Kabuki, we work with Eugene [Souleiman], Michel Gaubert always does the music, so it’s always kind of a place for us to meet up, acknowledge each other, and it’s just really easy going. And that’s the best way to do it.

Yeah! It’s almost like your own community.

Yeah, we have an ashram. Jeremy Scott ashram.

Is this a busy Fashion Week for you, aside from the Jeremy Scott work?

It is, the landscape’s changing a lot, I’m doing sick shows, we did Namilia, which I love, and Francesca Liberatore, and Xuly.Bët, and Jeremy. So we have some cool projects we’re working on.

And are there any up-and-coming brands that you’re into?
I’m into Namilia, the show I did on Wednesday. W picked it as one of the top three of this season, they’re really cool, their inspiration was using teenage boys as sexual play things for young girls and to take down Trump, so that was fun. We had bondage gear, latex fetish masks.
