Babyghost is For All the Grunge Grandmas Out There

Babyghost was born on the Lower East Side, and this season they’ve stayed true to their downtown roots, while also bringing something new to the table with innovative fabrics. Their Fall/Winter ’16 collection, presented tonight at MADE Fashion Week, provided a lesson in layering. Pairing her grandmother’s delicate fabrics and soft silhouettes with tougher, oversized outerwear and combat boots, the Babyghost girl is feminine, but she’ll still show up to dinner with her skateboard in tow.

Kurt Cobain-inspired cardigans were shown with long skirts and slouchy t-shirts, while sheer slip dresses where worn with modular ski jackets. The models stood amidst floral crosses and sanctuary candles, evoking scenes from Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. Luckily no one is dying for their love of Babyghost, they’re just bowing down at the BG altar.

Check out presentations from LRS, This Is The Uniform, and Charles Youssef.
