Narciso Rodriguez Is On a Mission to Finally Let Loose
Narciso Rodriguez is known for his sharp tailoring and constructing pieces that appear to be feats of technical engineering, but this season he’s letting loose. A little. The designer opened his show with an asymmetric cream coat in a crinkled fabric that appeared throughout the collection. It’s less structured, but just as powerful, and set the tone for his Fall/Winter ’16 collection from the start. No longer reserved for the office or bougie cocktail parties, Narciso is ready to brunch and hit the dance floor with the best of them.
Layered tank dresses featured sharp, asymmetric hems and were paired with loose shawl coats, while cozy knits were worn with silky skirts underneath. The designer played with volume, particularly in the outerwear, showing a number of oversized silhouettes can keep you cozy against the cold without going full Margiela duvet coat. The palette stuck mostly to neutrals—black, white, and olive—punctuated with metallic fabrics in bronze, gunmetal, and gold. Every great collection needs something shiny, as Bianca Jagger would say (we think).
A favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama, you may have relegated Rodriguez to your mom’s closet, but this season’s collection begs to differ. Let him slide into your DMs, and dress you for a night out.
