Opening Ceremony Unveils New Collection to Honor LGBT Community

Cool kid retail conglomerate Opening Ceremony unveiled a new capsule collection yesterday in honor of NYC Pride Week, which runs from the 19th of June to the 26th. With 11 garments, the collection ranges from t-shirts to tanks, hoodies to baseball caps. OC selected five iconic bars from the city’s history—The Stonewall Inn, Meow Mix, Cattyshack, The Eagle, and The Monster—to celebrate, explaining on its blog:

New York’s marriage between fashion and nightlife has proven to be the LGBTQ community’s longest standing relationship. For decades, the art of dress has been practiced among queers to express themselves, but fashion has a way to either hide or embellish the truth. At a time when fear of retaliation was veiled with the suit and tie, the events at Stonewall initiated a dialogue for what it means to be truly “out”. It was in bars like this where an acceptance among peers developed into a community—strong enough to stand up against a homophobic society.

100 percent of the profits made from the collection will be donated to the Pulse Victim’s Fund.
