Predicting This Summer's Street Style Via The 'Gram
Minimalism may still be the authority when it comes to style, but there’s a new kid in town: color. Instagram is serving up a truly delectable rainbow of shades this season, but there’s a few that are set to the stand the test of time. Think a floral-inspired marigold, a nearly-melon bubble gum pink, a true tomato red, the greenest of lime greens, and, of course, the resurgence of all things beige (because what summer is complete without matching our vanilla Kanye cones at least once?).
Now, we’re not saying this season requires a full clean out of all your black frocks, but seriously, lighten up a little. Below, four foolproof shades of colorful goodness (plus one very-vanilla standby) to get you started.
Match your sunny disposition with a coordinated frock. Bandana circa 1992 recommended but not required.
Bubble Gum Pink
There are so many peach puns to be had here, but we’ll christen it bubble gum pink instead and save you the literary annoyance. Whatever you call it, it’s cute as hell, and literally looks good on everyone. What’s not to love?
There’s nothing quite so fresh as a true rendition of the primary colors in clothing form. Above, a day-to-night-to-day red dress that arguably rivals the LBD in versatility and timelessness.
If you thought limes were just for tacos and happy hour margaritas, think again. A spark of citrus says two thing: either “I’m ready for anything!” or, alternatively, “Don’t fuck with me fucker!” Done and done.
Nothing new here: white, beige, sand, stone, you name it—it’s on the menu this summer. And while NYC may don the blackest of black outfits for eight months out of the year, there comes a time to shed the layers and pull on the white linen. You heard it here first: the time is now!
