Watch the video for sergioisdead's viral debut single, "U".

Premiere: "U" Vid by sergioisdead, ft. MERGES

Let’s get straight to the point: it doesn’t get much more relatable than “U”. From New York‘s own sergioisdead (and featuring electro pop princess MERGES), the artist’s new vid touches on that feeling of longing—basically, when a budding relationship turns toxic, but you can’t quite escape it just yet.

sergioisdead recruited none other than director Stephen Michael Simon (think Selena Gomez’s “It Ain’t Me”, if you’re wondering what else he’s had a hand in creating) to produce the visual representation of “U”: essentially, lots of rope work and skill to show that I’m-stuck-and-can’t-get-out feeling as literally (and artfully) as possible.

“I don’t think a lot of people are familiar with self-suspension and rope work,” sergioisdead says. “It’s such an insane art form and really looks how the song sounds. I haven’t seen a video like this before and that always means you have to do it.”

Simon can speak to the visual interpretation better than almost anyone:

“It’s essentially not being able to escape something terrible. Visually told through rope bondage. It’s about restraint.”
