Premiere: Watch Ember Island's New "Umbrella" Video
Not all covers are created equal. They are born from three different categories: this-should’ve-never-happened, to bad, to great. Thankfully, the latter is the case for Stockholm-based act Ember Island. The trio—consisting of producer-instrumentalists Didrik and Joakim along with vocalist Alex—have done an exceptional job at creating delectable covers of our favorite tunes such as The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” and Radiohead’s iconic “Creep”. In homage of the 10-year anniversary of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, the Swedish trio are back at it again with their own mellow spin on the track—accompanied with a stirring video—that would make RiRi proud.
As far as the aesthetic of the video? “We worked with an amazing stylist named Meja Taserud for this video and also got some assistance from Ibeyostudio choosing the clothes.”
The monochromatic colors and soul piercing vocals are in perfect sync with the melodious tones of the guitar and keys. Additionally, we can’t help but notice the mod, minimalistic motif spread across each member’s choice of threads.
“We used a mixture of Swedish and international brands such as Monki, Vans, L’Homme Rouge and Weekday,” the band says. “The video was shot and produced by our friends at Hyper Paradise and they did a great job with setting the mood for the video with the right locations, it all came together just as we had imagined.”
Later this year, Ember Island will release their debut EP which will feature all original tracks. What’s more? Expect collaborations with some of the biggest names in the electronic music world as well. For now, tune into the visual for “Umbrella” above, exclusively on MILK.XYZ.
