Prepare Your Tears For These Unreleased Amy Winehouse Photos
They tried to make us stop obsessing over Amy Winehouse and we said “no, no, no.” For the diehard Winehouse fans who laughed, cried, and cried some more after last year’s documentary Amy broke our souls, we have the best photo-related news since the time Justin Bieber’s Jerry showed itself to the world.
Photographer Charles Moriarty is blessing us all with never-before-seen collection of photographs of the late singer. His new book called Before FRANK, referencing Winehouse’s 2003 album FRANK, captures a rise to superstardom that was confirmed with her breakthrough record Back to Black in 2006.
Moriarty shot the cover of FRANK and, through his new book, plans to show the world an different side of Amy, before her downward spiral into drug and alcohol addiction, which made her tabloid fodder and tragically led to her death at just 27 years old. The London photographer has been raising money to cover the production costs on Kickstarter. Honestly, we’re throwing money at the screen, just trying to figure how to get the book faster. The good news is that it’s already passed the goal of $21,249, and still has seven days left to go. The foreword will be written by Amy director Asif Kapadia, and promises to show a side to the embattled singer we haven’t seen yet. For a preview of what’s to come, check out the slideshow above.
“I think the Amy in these pictures is both the girl and the Icon, at times you see her fun side, her youth, but there are moments when, all of a sudden you see Amy Winehouse, and the girl is gone,” Moriarty explained to Dazed. “I think these images in some ways are extremely personal, she is true to herself in them. It’s honest to the core.”
