Runway Rundown: AREA [NYFW]

Looking around the Wolcott Hotel, it’s impossible to not notice the shimmering chandeliers, soaring decorative ceilings, and gold marble-accented pillars giving us vintage New York feels. Designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of AREA, keeping sensuality and erotica as the theme of their fall 2017 ready-to-wear collection, chose an a capella version of Aaliyah’s Rock the Boat as thirty-three looks worn by an array of tone diverse models strutted down the runway. AREA dove deep into disco-frenzy silk pant looks; wooing the audience with their unconventional pairing of fur bralettes, crystallized harnesses, and metal chain belts. Channeling straight-up 1970s allure in burgundies and browns, models wore androgynous blazers, deep v-neck blouses, and chunky platform heels. AREA’s consistent elegant domination runway after runway proves that they’re onto something.

The Takeaway…

Designers Piotrek Panszczyk & Beckett Fogg’s bounced fluidly from the ‘70s to the faraway future with a dash of heavy metal accessories in between. This season’s collection foreshadows an era in which fashion is embodied by lustful freedom, loads of skin, and an abundance of sexy.
