Runway Rundown: VFILES Elevates The Statement Coat [NYFW]
The VFILES Runway 8 show presented a manifold premium of the innate, note-worthy talent of three selected designers for 2017. A theme that gracefully put all three collections in harmony with one another was, undoubtably, the diverse construction and use of the jacket—not only as a functional layer, but, rather, as the focus of the outfit. Designer Snow Xue Gao crafted business style suit jackets combined with quilted, exotically-printed flare on curious parts of each piece. The Strateas Carlucci duo served up downtown vibes with an emphasis on using a diverse bounty of color and textures with every piece that went down the runway. Danielle Cathari’s use of the jacket feels like out-the-door vintage paired with statement, geometric-patterned athleisure.
The VFILES show celebrates the inevitable fall weather by challenging fashionistas to elevate the jacket past its typical status as obligatory outerwear, and to invest in the glory of a risky, statement sheath of sorts that speaks most to you. A good coat lasts forever, right?
