Shopping With Niki Takesh at FYI @ MADE [NYFW]
A wise man once said, “After the show it’s the after party.” But this is Fashion Week, and there comes a point when the shows are the after parties and the after parties are the shows. For SS17, MADE New York decided to merge the experience of fashion and partying even more, putting together FYI @ MADE: a pop-up party where you can listen to live DJ sets (including the likes of Dev Hynes, Venus X, and Mike Q), while you shop for MADE designers’ newest collections, all while sipping cocktails. And while, sure, it seems like alcohol and shopping are a dangerous combination, we enlisted the help of the savviest people in the game to guide us through the experience. On the first day of FYI, model, artist, and all around cool girl Niki Takesh showed us around the different booths, giving insight as to when, where, and how she would wear the best of the MADE New York designs. During the walk we talked about Mariah’s many moments, ate cupcakes, and fan girled upon running into Patricia Field.
“I would wear this with some high waisted pants and my usual little crop top. It’s so cropped, so it’s perfect. I would wear it as a casual all day, every day, light fall moment—before it gets too cold. It’s just stunning.”
“I’m really tiny, so I would probably have to shorten and hem it, and I’d make the slit a little higher. That’s what I usually have to do with vintage pieces, because it’s hard for me to find my size. I wish there was a matching top, but I would wear it with a cute little crop top.”
Barragán NSYNC Shirt
“NSYNC is still my favorite band. I listen to them often. I really like the Celebrity album—that’s the one I listen to the most in 2016, probably. I would wear this shirt as a dress on some lazy day with some slides and giant sunglasses when I’m just going to the bodega for a latte, and then hide in bed.”
“Chromat is so sexy to wear for Soul Cycle.”
“I would call this look ‘The Simple Life Season 2 chic.’ Or was it season 1 when they went to the farm? I’m just trying to achieve ‘Nicole Richie on The Simple Life.'”
“This is the look I would wear while guarding myself from the paparazzi at the airport.”
MAISON the FAUX Robe
“This look is very Gone Girl realness meets baby shower chic.”
Dev Hynes Souvenir Merch
“What I’m seeing right now is a lot of souvenir merch gone fashion x Dev Hynes, and I love all of those things. They’re giving me life. I definitely need this for my keychain, because I <3 NY, but I also <3 Dev Hynes.”
“I would wear this to stay happy once winter comes. And it matches my tattoos.”
Andrea Jiapei Li
“This is exactly what I would be wearing if I was a CE-Ho. If i had 100 more employees and a bigger office this is what I would be wearing, but I’m just not there yet. I can’t wait to get to that point though, so I can wear all these boss bitch looks.”
“I’m gonna wear this to the Oscars when I win for Best New Actress. It’s perfect, it’s stunning. You can see a little labia, you can see a little nip—but not too much, it’s subtle. It’s still like, ‘Hey Leo,’ and you bloop and show the really high slit that goes past your labia by 10 inches.”
“This is the epitome of New York Fashion Week. A fucking Thrasher hoodie spiked and studded. I’m done. It’s a wrap.”
