Silly String Eleganza At Wes Gordon
The crowd for Wes Gordon’s MADE fashion week show was killer, with fashion luminaries like Hamish Bowles, Lauren Santo Domingo, and Linda Fargo mingling with the likes of Solange Knowles and everyone’s favorite cheerleader, Gabrielle Union. Everyone was already a big fan of Gordon’s clothing; it’s always ladylike and lovely, a perfect look for New York’s Condé girls. While SS16 was still a classy eleganza extravaganza, several of the looks had a relaxed feel, with long shirts and blazers over loose skirts. Gordon embraced summer leather and very of-the-moment shoulder cutouts, and a few pieces featured gorgeous 1920’s-style Charleston loops, modernized with a nineties silhouette. Our very favorite look was a bright yellow dress with an intricate knit pattern resembling silly string, showing that while Wes Gordon may design for grown ups, he still knows how to play around. We chatted with him to get his take on the collection.
How are you feeling right now?
I’m feeling really excited. It’s always a relief. Everything went off ok, every model was here, nothing broke, nothing ripped, nothing was missing. I’m tired though.
What are you gonna do to celebrate?
I have to do a bunch of stuff right now for work, and at some point my celebration will be a little nap.
It was a beautiful show. How would you describe the collection?
It’s very feminine with a demure core, but then there’s something mysterious and dark kind of enveloping it. We had a lot of Winona images in our studio as we were designing it. We had sunglasses, which were super fun! The cast was amazing, the girls looked so pretty. Hair, makeup, everything was amazing. The team was awesome.
