Snapshot: A Joshua Tree Birthday With Sara Radin
Travel alongside our Milk.xyz contributors with Snapshot, our new photo diary series. This week, Sara Radin goes to Joshua Tree with Chandra Johnson of Two One Seven Vintage to celebrate the big 3-0.
There was only one place I wanted to be when I turned 30 last month and that was Joshua Tree, California. The last time I was there, for Coachella in 2016, I felt a wave of catharsis come over me. There was just something calming about being surrounded by desert life and seeing gorgeous snow-capped mountains far out in the distance.
Leaving behind the frigid cold February temps in New York, my friend Chandra Johnson, who runs Two One Seven Vintage, and I packed up her brand new car in LA and drove the 3 hours of terrible traffic to a small wooden cabin next to a very mysterious church. Spending the weekend photographing old signage and vintage shopping (I discovered the porcelain cat statue of my dreams for under ten dollars while Chandra purchased the most amazing fringe coat we’ve ever seen), we reveled in its local eateries, spent time at an old bowling alley, and took advantage of the many nature photo ops. I truly couldn’t have imagined a better way to spend my big birthday.
