Call it what you will—The Big Apple, The City that Never Sleeps, or The Concrete Jungle—but it’s impossible to deny that New York City has one of the most unique flavors of any city around the world. In this city built upon a foundation of originality, the bubbling music scene is at the absolute forefront of music innovation.
This week, we’ve teamed up with Von, an NYU student at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, whose curated a playlist full of rising NYC musicians to jam out to. Titled, “Shop Local: NYC”, this playlist is a sonic homage to the city we call home.
“New York City is either the most fruitful place for inspiration or an utter cluster fuck of stress,” Von says. “The only thing I miss about home is driving to new music, so I’ve recently been riding up and down the subways lines just to clear my head. I literally don’t go anywhere without headphones on so most of my day is already taken up by sifting through new tracks. I wanted to create a playlist that not only showcases the budding talent of this city, but also serves to tune it out when needed. Things are so exciting right now for artists in NYC—this is a compilation of songs that remind me of that.”
Be sure to check out the playlist here, and plug into the talent that permeates NYC.
