Sunrays, Winterwear, and Candy Collided For the Milk X Burton Party

For the crowd pouring out of the elevator and into the penthouse at Milk Studios last night, the best way to preview the newest gear from Burton’s Fall ’16 and Winter ’17 collections was with sunglasses on and a drink in hand. Sunrays beamed down on the rooftop deck–where there was just enough breeze to avoid sweating. Drinks sloshed in time to the music pouring out of the speakers, as Max Glazer of Federation Sound and ZEEMUFFIN spun beats to keep the situation as lit as the sun–without the UV damage.

Having a snowboarding company show off their winter collection at the start of summer with a rooftop party may seem ironic and more than a bit unorthodox, but that’s what we’ve come to expect when Burton and Milk get together. After all, this is the same company that just teamed up with Milk Makeup to create a line of makeup bags we’re still dying over. When Burton comes to town, the only rule is that there are no rules–and there was no better example of that than what (and who) we saw during the brand’s annual preview party.

Founder Jake Burton Carpenter and COO Greg Dacyshyn showed off racks of clothes, featuring collabs with Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. (Blake Shelton not included), Playboy, and Led Zeppelin. An endless supply of food trays kept us diving for the last veggie burger. Our personal favorite find, though, was a table tucked into a corner that was packed with every candy we’ve been trying and failing to avoid since we decided to start going to the gym again.

As we weaved through the crowd, we caught sight of enough models to fill a runway presentation and a gang of skaters and snowboarders chilled out with half-shut eyes. Model Anne Sophie Monrad, MADE co-founder Jenné Lombardo, Jordyn Woods, Lexi Boling, Cat McNeil, Shaun White, and Heron Preston all kept cool under the sun–even Virgil Abloh showed up to relax after his killer post-D.R.A.M. DJ set in the JamRoom on Wednesday night. When the sun set and the temperature started to dip, the crowd stayed warm and kept the party alive by dancing the night away.
