#TBT: Milk Gallery Hosts Adidas Showcase X, Curated by Mark Gonzales
Mark Gonzales doesn’t need an introduction, but we’ll give him one anyways: legendary pro skater, named “Most Influential Skateboarder of All Time” by Transworld Mag in 2011, and the man, myth, and legend behind a 1998 performance piece in a German museum, The Gonz is one in a million. That said, last Thursday, Gonzales stepped foot in Milk Gallery to recreate his art piece from way back when with a one-night-only rendition straight from ’98. Split into two parts of about 15 minutes each, the performance rocked the Gallery floor (and walls) and ended with a bang—quite literally—when Gonzales wrecked through the famous tunnel that stood in the center of the space (luckily it was rebuilt, or replaced; we’re not quite sure). In true skater fashion, the party then commenced, with beer and wine flowing till late in the evening. And decorating the walls? Art curated by Gonzales himself, embodying the spirit and community of the skate world he so loves and represents.
If you missed opening night, not to worry—the curated art is still hanging at Milk Gallery, along with the tunnel and ramp from Gonzales’ performance, and will stick around until July 29. Catch it while you can!
