The Best Behind-The-Scenes Instagrams From The Met Gala
Fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala, took place last night in New York (it’s held every year on the first Monday of May). You may have seen the red carpet photos and who wore what, but did you watch the event through the iPhones of the celebs that attended? I didn’t think so. Here are some of the best pre-Gala and afterparty behind-the-scenes shots that the paparazzi just couldn’t capture.
Amy Schumer’s Thigh Trick
Amy Schumer’s preventative chafing trick for her pre-Gala prepping legit works. All you have to do is put deodorant between your legs when you know you’re going to have to strut your stuff for a few hours. This trick makes life, as well as not having a thigh gap, so much less painful. We expect nothing less from the comedian than to get real with her fans and post this silly video on her Insta.
Madonna Made A Music Video
Madonna entered the Manus x Machina Experience, a video booth honoring the party’s technology theme, directed by Gordon Von Steiner. She absolutely killed it. Tons of celebs entered the trippy, Men In Black-looking room for a futuristic video, but no one did it quite as well as Madonna–they don’t have her moves.

Kim Licked Kanye
Kim K.’s up close and super personal snapchat shows Yeezy’s trippy contacts that worked perfectly for the Man vs Machine theme of the night. In this snap posted to Kim’s Insta, we get a little peek inside Kimye’s marriage. It’s safe for work, but I wasn’t ready for this.
Kristen Stewart, Willow Smith, and Zoe Kravitz
Smith casually snapped this bathroom selfie with Stewart and Kravitz, with Girls’ lovely Jemima Kirke lurking in the background. This is one of the coolest crews at the ball, and we’re dying to know what they talked about. Stewart and Smith match perfectly in their studded Chanel outfits, and Kravitz worked a Maison Valentino mask, which was fierce as hell. We may never know what really went down, but ladies, if you’d like to tell us, we’re ready and waiting.
Beyonce, La La, and Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj snapped this “hot mess” selfie with Beyoncé and La La Anthony, and don’t they look like they’re having the best time? From her caption, which displays the lyrics to Beyoncé’s Jack White-collab “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” it’s clear that Minaj is still jamming to Lemonade like the rest of us. But who are they side-eying?!
Solange Knowles, Amandla Stenberg, and Willow Smith
We really wish that this video Solange posted had sound so we could tell what these three cuties were jamming to. They are pure magic, utter #goals. We’re especially loving Stenberg’s minimalist silk red Calvin Klein suit, proving that she’s once again the coolest teen at any prom, ever. Babe Ball is right.
Claire Danes rocked a Zac Posen futuristic glow dress that was literally lit. Danes, Posen, and a group of lucky volunteers choreographed a last-minute dance to reveal the lights on, and it was like seeing Cinderella at a particularly futuristic ball. Very on-theme.
Bella Hadid transformed from Gala attire to after party bad girl by dancing to some songs by her very on beau, The Weeknd. She seriously channeled Catwoman in her skintight black dress by latex master Atsuko Kudo. The dance in this video is relatively safe for work, but we can’t promise anything.
Trying to rock a plaster cast at the Met Gala next to a ton of celebs decked out from head to toe can’t be easy. But it looked pretty ok for Lorde, who was a glamorous vision in a diaphanous Valentino gown. The upside is that the Grammy-winner got a ton of sweet signatures from the likes of Kanye West, Taylor Swift, and Lily Collins, who signed “Best Date Ever.” Lorde is officially the envy of elementary schoolers everywhere.
