The Internet is Loving this Street View of 1980s New York
Have you ever wanted to see what your walk-up looked like 30 years ago? Now, with a ‘street view’ tool sweeping the internet, you can. According to a report by NBC, the site — 80s.nyc — uses old tax photos taken by the Department of Finance from 1983 to 1988. The agency took more than 800,000 color photographs of buildings and vacant lots across the five boroughs of New York City as part of an effort to appraise property for real estate tax purposes.
Peep what the Milk building looked like in the 1980s, and explore for yourself what the city that never sleeps looked like in the age of Diana Ross, perms, and neon bodysuits.
