The Annual Milk BBQ Brought Out Your Favorite Freaks

You know that old saying, the freaks come out at night? As true as it may be, the freaks came out a little bit earlier than usual last Friday for Milk’s BBQ. Held every year at the Milk Equipment Rental in Williamsburg, this year’s freakshow-themed event was just that: a total freakshow, in the best possible way.

It was raining from the moment the BBQ started until the second the festivities ended, but bad weather didn’t stop partygoers from cooling down outside after sweating it out on the dance floor. Kissey expertly mixed the latest bangers—think Travis Scott, Drake, and Rihanna—with vintage classics like MJ and Biggie. The heat and humidity turned the dance floor into a sauna, but Kissey’s skills kept the party going and the dancers sweaty. At one point, LCD Soundsystem’s “Dance Yrself Clean” transformed the party from a classic dance floor to a full-fledged mosh pit, led by Milk’s very own Mazdack Rassi.

Of course, no true BBQ would be complete without the food—and there was plenty to go around. Anyone looking to recharge could feast on burgers, hot dogs, and po’ boys (and kale salad, for the health nuts) provided by Sweet Chick. Revelers beat the heat by sucking on boozy popsicles and pouring back Jameson cocktails. Best of all, taking a shot of Jameson (or chugging a beer) got you five tickets, which could be redeemed for prizes at the Milk arcade, where people were playing intense games of Skee-Ball, pinball, and Whack-A-Mole. We were personally aiming for a giant, neon green monkey, but didn’t end the night with the 400 tickets needed to buy it. That’s a whole lot of Jameson.

If you can’t remember the night—because after all those shots and popsicles, who could?—the Milk photo booth captured every moment. People posed solo and with props (think disembodied eyeballs, giant monkeys, and inflatable ice-cream-cones), many of which made their way out onto the dance floor. You know the stereotype of people throwing beach balls around at music festivals? Replace the beach ball with an eyeball, and you’ve got the Milk BBQ.

Stay tuned to Milk for more epic parties.
