Transgender Model Munroe Bergdorf Will Be The New Face of Illamasqua
Transgender model Munroe Bergdorf just landed a gig in the newest Illamasqua campaign following her ousting from L’Oreal Cosmetics. After urging white people everywhere to be aware of their own privilege and the fact that white supremacy inherently benefits all white people, regardless of their own views, the French cosmetics brand alleged that Bergdorf’s statements did not align with their definition of “diversity”.
Munroe took to Twitter (the post has since been deleted) to express her views on Charlottesville as a trans woman of color: “Honestly I don’t have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people. Because most of ya’ll don’t even realise or refuse to acknowledge that your existence, privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and death of people of colour. Your entire existence is drenched in racism.”
Munroe’s comments, which were a genuine call to action for white people to renounce their privilege and recognize their role in perpetuating white supremacy, were not well-received by the company, as they felt it was an attack on white people…sigh. Other people of color and woke people across the internet quickly came to the defense of Bergdorf.
If you can't handle an open and honest conversation abt racism, you probably should stop using the word "diversity" https://t.co/R231vt34Cd

L'Oreal are trash for this. You cannot exploit a black trans woman for PR brownie points then turn your back when she speaks out on racism https://t.co/19CViHQHLD

The model has since moved on to bigger, better opportunities – with rival brand Illamasqua. Munroe Bergdorf has previously worked with the brand, who quickly supported her and spoke out against the L’Oreal decision. We can’t wait to see what this new partnership will bring.
