Milk fam Cassandra Aaron explains why increasing discussion around endo is so damn important.

Watch This Glamour Vid Combatting The Taboo Surrounding Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, and yet the research, information, and discussion surrounding the disorder are hard to come by at best, and misleading, incorrect, or just plain nonexistent at worst. In simple terms, endo is where tissue that typically lines the uterus grows outside of the uterus, causing extreme pain and immobility. But pain in women is often ignored or dismissed, and thus, many people suffering from endo are unable to receive a correct diagnosis, or are prevented from getting adequate treatment.

Unsurprisingly, women are sick and tired of the radio silence—and are pushing for more funding, more research, and more discussion around how to properly care for their own bodies. Duh. And some serious moves are being made: from Senators Elizabeth Warren and Orrin Hatch’s new initiative in partnership with Endo What? to kickstart awareness and change via EndoWhat.Org, to celebrities like Lena Dunham simply being outspoken about their own struggles and thus continuing the dialogue both online and off.

Today, we’re stoked on another step in the right direction: a brand-new vid from Glamour featuring four women with endo, including our very own Milk fam Cassandra Aaron. Community combats isolation, and when you spend a lifetime suffering from a disorder that few are willing to acknowledge or believe, having the reassurance that you’re not alone is key.
