Weekend Recap: Printed Matter's LA Art Book Fair
For those of us who still enjoy the unmatched feeling of physical prints, Printed Matter’s Art Book Fair is an annual treat. From DIY zines to limited edition collectibles, more than 300 contributors from over 30 countries gathered in Los Angeles’ Geffen Contemporary at MOCA to browse the selection. Not limited to just books, the event was packed full of live performances, interactive workshops, art installations, panel discussions, and several opportunities for attendees to exercise their excitement for the event’s return. Redeeming its absence in 2018 and celebrating the life of the late Shannon Michael Cane (the event’s iconic curator), Printed Matter presented the first four awards that recognized the Fair’s newest publishers in Canes’ name. This year’s winners proved Printed Matter’s commitment to international inclusion, as the winners spanned from Argentina’s CHACO to Mexico’s Gold Rain and New York’s RUB and Wendy’s Subway. With a total of 15,000 attendees representing LA’s best spring styles and smiles, the event was packed with ~book fair chic~ apparel and attitudes to match. If you weren’t able to witness the turn-out this year, don’t sweat—we’ve got some photos of the event to hold you until next April.
