WTF: People Are Pissed That 'The Wiz' Has An All-Black Cast
There’s been a growing epidemic of fake outrage on social media. Today is no different. (Surprise, surprise.) People are angry that the cast of NBC’s The Wiz Live! consists of only black actors. The Wiz Live!, which debuts tonight, December 3rd, on NBC, features Queen Latifah, Common, Mary J. Blige, David Alan Grier, Ne-Yo, Stephanie Mills, Elijah Kelley, Uzo Aduba, and Amber Riley.
“So @nbc show #TheWizLive has an all black cast. There sure would be quite an uproar if it was an all-white cast. #TheWiz,” someone tweeted, according to Buzzfeed. ““Minorities act like they’re the victims, but can you imagine if we made an all-white version of The Wiz?” another person tweeted.
Um, just a few things…Did we forget that The Wiz Live! is a revival of the ‘70s musical, later turned film, The Wiz. The film featured an all black cast including the goddess Diana Ross, the late Michael Jackson, the late Richard Pryor, the late Lena Horne, just to name a few? Right, okay.
Now, another question, do the people that are e-crying not know that the original musical was a loose adaptation of the film, The Wizard of Oz, which…wait for it… had an ALL WHITE CAST?
Some people did get a clue sooner than later on the gems mentioned above, and apologized for their ignorance. “I have apologized profusely for my ignorant #TheWiz tweet. I am now informed. Please accept my apologies, and yes, they’re sincere. Merry Christmas!!!” posted @KevXIndy, on his Twitter bio.
