Your Weekend Playlist, Courtesy of Brandon Banks
Despite the fact that he’s still fresh meat in the music industry, Brandon Banks is a up-and-coming voice who’s about to start cashing in big time. Hot off the release of his first single, “Autumn,” the 23-year-old Inglewood native has a distinctly melancholy tone that meshes seamlessly with the bass-heavy, lush beat of the track. With soft vocals and a sleepy diction, Banks is developing a uniquely powerful sound that’s unlike anything that’s currently saturating our radio waves.
As a singer and songwriter, Banks draws inspiration from his difficult past as he grew up in an environment shaped by gang violence and drugs. He’s attracted to the notion of duality, which explains his interest in juxtaposing the past and present.
“’Autumn’ is a track that explores the duality of my life, looking back in the past as well as the present,” Banks says. “For me music is freedom. And ‘Autumn’ represents old things; past demons, pain, anger, relationships falling away (autumn leaves), giving birth to new life, and a new mindset.”
This Friday, we’ve teamed up with Banks to create a playlist that’ll have you cruising through the weekend like you’re floating down a lazy river. Featuring some of our favorite artists like Frank Ocean, Kali Uchis, and Weezer, it’s safe to say that Banks’ curated track list will hit you with all of the feels. Sit back, relax, and chill.
