Experimental, futuristic sounds are nothing new. Though artists of the likes of Björk and FKA twigs have proven to be trendsetters of that sonic world, there’s a new femme hailing from South Korea that’s bringing her A-game by way of producing and songwriting: CIFIKA. Despite K-Pop’s omnipresent craze, the DIY producer is immersing from South Korea’s underground scene and breathing life into the ever-evolving electronic music soundscape.
CIFIKA writes all of her own lyrics in addition to producing, mastering, and mixing all of her own tunes. Her next level approach to production consists of a harmonious blend of R&B beats and unparalleled vocals that vary in intensity.
The electronic music maverick has a big year ahead of her. CIFIKA’s forthcoming PRISM EP drops on March 2, and following the release, she will embark on an American tour that kicks off on March 4 and is the largest-ever US tour for any Korean artist to date.
We couldn’t resist her playlist that consists of Aphex Twin, Nina Kraviz, Machinedrum and more. Regarding her choice in tracks, CIFIKA states: “This playlist is made for an after party of the Winter Olympics 2018. I tried to imagine how exciting and joyful it is for the contestants to allow themselves to be free from the burden as an athlete who represents their nation. I carefully selected each song to touch different parts of the world. Energy to energy, world to world.”
