Your Weekend Playlist, Courtesy of LP Giobbi & Hermixalot
It’s finally June, and you know what that means—Happy Pride Month fam!
For this week, we’ve teamed up with artists LP Giobbi and Hermixalot, who are two of our favorite rising artists repping the LGBTQ+ community in music. By fusing their musically inclined minds together, they’ve created the ultimate playlist–titled Gold Dyed Disco Pride—that will get you pumped and ready for the Pride-filled month ahead.
“Disco and house was originally for the oppressed and underserved,” LP Giobbi says. “It started in small, sweaty clubs that were safe spaces for minorities, gays, non-heteronormative and otherwise marginalized people to gather and experience joy in safe spaces. Learning about that history was the catalyst for me to start making music, and I hope to continue to build something that reflects the diversity and joy of all the folks that have a place in my life and in my crate.”
Hermixalot has had these tracks on a Pride pregame mix for years, so naturally, adding them to this playlist was a no-brainer.
“I started sneaking off to West Hollywood Pride when I was 16,” Hermixalot says. “It was the first place I felt I could grind on and make out with women without being scared to death. It was heaven—everyone free, fierce and fucked up. These songs have been on my Pride pregame playlist for years. I intentionally stack it with exclusively Black women, because the older I get, the more I realize how rare it is to see us out and about at mainstream Prides, and I need their energy. Also, our shit slaps like no other.”
Be sure to check out the playlist here, featuring some of our favorite artists like Janet Jackson, Yaeji, and Lizzo.
