Your Weekend Playlist, Courtesy of Triple Threat Trevor Jackson
While most 8-year-olds played little league tournaments, Trevor Jackson starred in the national tour of the Lion King. As he simultaneously completed his childhood and music and theater debut, he quickly transitioned into television. With guest roles on series such as Eureka and Disney Channel, his expansion into other lanes of the entertainment industry became inevitable.
As he continued to evolve his acting career in film, Jackson likewise inked a deal with Atlantic Records. The release of his first EP, #NewThang, carried over the sounds of the 2000s complete with a B.o.B feature. His artistic identity progressed in the years following by collaborating with artists including Sage the Gemini and Kirko Bangz.
Most recently, Jackson refines and focuses his musical identity under label direction from Born Art and Empire while starring in Freeform’s television series, Grown-ish. Although his 2019 releases do not depart from his R&B roots, he manifests his own take on contemporary hip hop. In his latest single “Puddles,” his melodic voice pairs with characteristic hip hop beats and an unexpected guitar solo.
