Zana Bayne is Bringing BDSM to The Museum of Sex

There is no modest way to introduce post-fetish leather brand Zana Bayne, created by the distinctive cutting edge team Zana Bayne and Todd Pendu. Based in New York, the elevated grunge duo spun the subculture concept of BDSM to create unique accessories with a punk rock flare. Mostly known for their harnesses designed to reflect personal style (worn by the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Madonna, no less), the brand diversified their collection with bustiers, handbags, hats, shoes, skirts, and tops, and also included select men’s pieces. The creative pair unapologetically projects their love of S&M into fashion and everyone (and we mean everyone) loves itnot least of which, high end designers Comme Des Garçons and Marc Jacobs—so much so that the aforementioned brands collaborated to release BLACK, a unisex harness line with custom gunmetal plated hardware with The Met exhibitionist Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garçons, and an unexpected Marc Jacobs Valentine’s Day Collection of red leather whips, nipple pierced pasties, and eye masks decked in gold hardware. Phew.

As the Zana Bayne brand continues to gain notoriety with their avant-garde designs, striking art direction, and designer collaborations, stylish BDSM admirers (and IRL participants) are gathering in droves at the Museum of Sex for the must-see exhibition, which features designs from 2010 to present day. The exhibit, much like a dungeon experience, is, fittingly, in the basement of the museum. Walking through the collection, spotlights highlight the center, where leather masked mannequins wear red harnesses attached to ceiling chains, giving us that real underground sadomasochism vibe. An archival installation of extraordinary pieces worn by A-list celebrities like Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Nicki Minaj is also on display.

Want a piece of the madness? You’re in luck. Merchandise from the Zana Bayne x MoSEX collab is now available online, as well as at the museum’s shop. Peep the full collection while you can—the collab is on view now until September 30.
